Eleanor Breaks More Records

Eighteen British Records were broken at the Nationwide Junior Swimming Championships. Over 200 disabled swimmers aged 10 to 18 enjoyed an action-pack weekend at Ponds Forge in Sheffield.

Amongst the record breakers in the short course event (25m) was Paralympic gold medallists Eleanor (Ellie) Simmonds MBE, 

Ellie broke records in both of her races in the championships- the S6 100m and 400m freestyle, both of which she took gold in the Beijing long course pool. The fourteen year old from Swansea clocked 1.21.26 in the 100m, beating her previous record of 1.22.34. A few hours later she was back in the water to compete in her favourite event the 400m freestyle. In the 400m she touched with a new British record of 5.47.39.

Simmonds commented about her first DSE junior event since winning her gold Paralympic medals:

“After an amazing Paralympics, it was good to be back to normal and swimming with no pressure. DSE have enabled me to compete with other disabled swimmers from an early stage in my development. I have been able to watch and learn from the top swimmers, while progressing through the ranks.”
